After visiting Murano, I stopped by Burano, the lace island. Burano is a long ride by boat, but is definitely worth it if you are in Venice for more than a day It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Every house was a different color. If the shutters were painted in a bold blue, then the house was a fuchsia and the door was a pale pink. Even the window sills have brightly colored flowers to accent, highlight and contrast the door and shutters. Since this is also a fishing village, there are boats in canals all throughout the island.
It was a very quiet place to walk around. Burano is known for their beautiful lace. If the store isn’t too busy, the owner will go on and on about the different types of lace, which ones are harder to master and will offer suggestions on what to purchase. It’s almost impossible to leave here without purchasing something.
